Sunyani: A jury constituted by the Judicial Committee of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs (BRHC) ruled in favour of Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, as the Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area and accepted him as a member of the House.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Akosua Dua Asor Sika Brayie II, the Queen-mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area, filed an injunction challenging the legitimacy of the enstoolment of Ogyeamansan Korkor II, praying the house to restrain him from conducting himself as the Paramount Chief. The injunction, filed in January 2025, further sought to restrain Nana Kwaku Sarbeng II, the Akwamuhene (sub-chief) and the Acting President of the Sunyani Traditional Council, from introducing Ogyeamansan Korkor II as the paramount chief of the area.
However, after its sitting in Sunyani, the jury admitted and acknowledged that Ogyeamansan Korkor II was duly selected and went through the required legal, traditional, and customary processes to succeed the late Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, who died some years ago. It therefore asked Ogyeamansan to reign and perform his duties as the paramount chief of Sunyani and President of the Sunyani Traditional Council.
The jury comprised Okokyeredom Sakyi Arko II, the Paramount Chief of Drobo, Daasebre Okogyeaman Duodu Ampem II, the Paramount Chief of Nsawkaw Manhene, and Nana Agyei Debra II, the Paramount Chief of the Seikwa Traditional Areas.
Later, in an interview with the media, Nana Sarbeng II stated, "my interest is only for the holistic development of Sunyani" and called for calm. He expressed appreciation to the House for amicably resolving the dispute and commended security agencies and all stakeholders for their cooperation throughout the dispute.
