Enchi: The Enchi District Magistrate Court has fined a 20-year-old mechanic, Felix Oppong Nyameah, GHS6,000 for stealing assorted items and a cash sum of GHS3,000 belonging to a Physician Assistant (PA).
According to Ghana News Agency, Nyameah, also known as 'One Girl', pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. If he fails to pay the fine, he will serve 12 months in prison for each count, with the sentences running consecutively. In addition to the fine, the court, presided over by Mr. Lawrence Buanor-Buer, ordered Nyameah to pay a compensation of GHS20,000 to the complainant.
Prosecuting, General Sergeant Stephen Offei Asante informed the court that the complainant, a PA at the Enchi Government hospital, resided at the residential quarters of the facility. Nyameah, on the other hand, was a resident of Begyeahaso, a suburb of Enchi in the Western North Region.
The incident occurred on January 28, 2025, when the complainant received a call to attend to a patient at the hospital, leaving his house unlocked. Upon returning, he discovered that various items, including an iPhone S, Acer Laptop, perfume, official stamp, a pair of ball boots, Samsung Galaxy 57, wristwatch, two hotspot containers, hospital equipment, and cash of GHS3,000, had been stolen.
The complainant received a tip-off on February 9, when a witness informed him that Nyameah had given her a mobile phone to charge, which displayed the complainant's picture as a screensaver upon switching it on. The complainant reported the case to the police, leading to Nyameah's arrest when he returned to retrieve the phone.
A police search of Nyameah's room uncovered several stolen items, including an official stamp of the Enchi Government hospital bearing the complainant's name, a perfume, wristwatch, and a bag containing hospital equipment. The complainant identified all items as his own, aiding the police investigation.
Nyameah admitted to the offence in his caution statement and was subsequently charged and arraigned before the court following the investigation.
