Asokore-mampong: The Asokore-Mampong Municipal Assembly is set to deploy sanitation guards in an effort to enforce sanitation by-laws across various communities. Mr. Ben Abdullah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive, emphasized the importance of adhering to sanitation regulations to enhance environmental cleanliness.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Alhassan voiced his concerns during a stakeholders’ meeting focused on sanitation. He highlighted the troubling trend of residents disposing of waste into the Aboabo River, especially during rainfall. Protecting and preserving the river, which traverses multiple communities in the municipality, is vital for maintaining the physical environment.
The stakeholders’ meeting aimed to identify lasting solutions to the sanitation challenges in the area while seeking collaborative support to explore strategies for improving sanitation standards. Additionally, the meeting sought to address concerns about neglect and the lack of proper hygiene and sanitation facilities in the communities.
Mr. Alhassan reiterated the assembly’s commitment to community engagement and education on health-related environmental issues. He stressed the importance of involving all community members in addressing these issues. He also urged stakeholders and partners to provide logistical support and implement effective sanitation reforms. This involves guiding residents to uphold high standards and encouraging them to take on roles as community custodians.
The meeting was attended by assembly members, associations, media representatives, political party delegates, community leaders, and security personnel. Other attendees included notable community figures, chiefs, queen mothers, union leaders, and distinguished individuals.
