Anlo afiadenyigba: Mr. Gabriel Kwabla Kuatsikor, the Assembly Member for the Anlo Afiadenyigba Dziehe Ablame Electoral Area, has called for logistics and institutional support to enhance sanitation and hygiene within the community.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kuatsikor highlighted that sanitation has been a persistent issue for the six communities under his jurisdiction, necessitating immediate intervention to protect public health. He praised the National Sanitation Day initiative, introduced during President John Dramani Mahama's tenure, and noted the recent launch of the Keta Municipal Assembly's version in Afiadenyigba, which has been well-received by residents.
Mr. Kuatsikor mentioned a new local by-law that requires community members to engage in regular cleanup activities. He stated that defaulters would face sanctions from traditional authorities, with repeated non-compliance potentially leading to court prosecution.
Despite these efforts, Mr. Kuatsikor emphasized that a shortage of essential tools and logistics is impeding the community's cleanliness initiatives. He urged individuals, organizations, and institutions to donate necessary equipment to help establish Anlo Afiadenyigba as one of Ghana's cleanest communities.
He expressed concern over the widespread practice of open defecation, identifying it as a significant public health hazard. Mr. Kuatsikor appealed for support in providing household toilet facilities to eliminate this practice and enhance sanitation.
Additionally, he revealed plans to prevent animals like pigs from wandering through the town by constructing pens, thereby allowing residents to maintain a clean environment. Mr. Kuatsikor also encouraged community members to adopt recycling practices, especially for managing plastic waste, to promote a sustainable and healthy community environment.
