Bogoso: AECI Mining Explosives West Africa has introduced an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) in Ghana, aiming to enhance employee well-being and develop a supportive workplace culture. The initiative is a confidential support system designed to assist employees and their families in managing challenges that impact their well-being and job performance.
According to Ghana News Agency, AECI Mining Explosives West Africa has engaged Supreme Healthcare Management Services South Africa to implement the programme. During the launch at Bogoso New Site, Madam Hannah Heloo, the Human Capital Manager for AECI Mining Explosives West Africa, emphasized that the initiative reflects the company's commitment to cultivating a workplace environment based on care, trust, and support. The Human Capital strategy in the region focuses on a holistic approach that balances performance with employee well-being both in and out of the workplace.
Madam Heloo expressed gratitude to the leaders and line managers for their critical role in promoting wellness within the organization and for setting a positive example. She encouraged the creation of psychologically safe spaces where conversations about wellness are normalized and support is encouraged rather than stigmatized.
Miss Patience Osekre, the Managing Director of Supreme Healthcare Management Services South Africa, highlighted the demanding nature of the mining industry, which requires long hours, focus, endurance, and teamwork. She noted that employees often work in high-pressure environments, which can result in fatigue, family separation, and emotional strain. The EAP is intended not only as a well-being initiative but also as a safety and performance enhancer.
Ms. Osekre explained that the programme offers employees confidential counselling and psychological support from licensed professionals, assistance for stress, trauma, grief, and family or financial challenges. Additionally, it provides critical incident and trauma response services, workshops, and well-being resources like monthly newsletters and webinars to help employees build resilience and maintain a healthy work-life balance. She assured employees that all information shared through the EAP would remain strictly confidential.
The introduction of the EAP signifies AECI's dedication to its employees by prioritizing their mental well-being and recognizing that a healthy mind is the foundation for a safe and successful workplace. Employees who spoke with Ghana News Agency after the event encouraged their colleagues to take advantage of the programme, acknowledging the significant investment made by their employer.
