The tragedy occurred on Thursday evening, May 29, 2025, at about 2230 hours, and left other passengers severely injured. The injured were rushed to the Sogakope Government Hospital for medical attention.

According to Ghana News Agency, Divisional Officer Grade III Saviour Coffie, the Akatsi South Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), described the incident as worrying, considering the impact of damage and death toll. 'We had to extricate the driver and two other passengers who died on the spot together with other passengers,' he said.

Preliminary findings, according to Mr. Saviour Coffie, revealed that the driver of the Ford vehicle, who was heading towards Akatsi, tried to overtake some vehicles in his lane during which he lost possession and rammed into a moving tipper truck resulting in the fatalities.
