About 39 manual exchange offices authorised by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) started operations from January 1 to August 15, 2023, bringing the total number of exchange offices to 333, according to data published by the Institute of Issuance.

The first manual exchange office in Tunisia was launched in La Goulette on March 15, 2019, following authorisation granted by the BCT on November 2, 2018.

Vice President of the Tunisian Association of Exchange Offices Kamel Mgarech told TAP on May 15, 2023, that over the past four years, manual exchange offices have generated nearly TND 7 billion in foreign currency inflows.

“These offices are expected to contribute to increasing the money supply to approximately TND 20 billion over the next five years, provided they benefit from the innovations in modern payment mechanisms that have been recorded,” Mgarech pointed out.
