Zimbabwean Journalist Advocates for Strengthened Cultural Ties Between Zimbabwe and China

Harare: Zimbabwe and China could enhance cultural exchanges to deepen their mutual understanding, a senior Zimbabwean journalist has said. In a recent written interview with Xinhua, Lawson Mabhena, editor of The Chronicle, a daily newspaper in Zimbabwe, expressed admiration for China's efforts in preserving its civilization, which spans thousands of years, and suggested that China and Zimbabwe could enhance cooperation in that sphere.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mabhena is among several Zimbabwean media professionals who attended a recent skills exchange program in central China's Hunan Province. During this program, participants gained a deeper insight into Chinese culture and the country's development across various fields. Mabhena emphasized the importance of cultural pride and suggested that enhancing tourism and visits to cultural sites between the two countries would significantly foster understanding. He also highlighted the potential benefits of cultural exchanges and festivals in strengthening bilateral ties.

Throughout the trip, Mabhena was particularly impressed by China's pursuit of high-quality development, which he described as a pursuit of happiness for ordinary Chinese people. He noted that China's experience in achieving high-quality development serves as an inspiration for African countries seeking similar progress. Mabhena urged the media to play a crucial role in amplifying stories about the prospering cooperation and unique civilizations of Zimbabwe and China, emphasizing the need for these narratives to be shared widely.
