Accra: The Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has appealed to Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, to assist in rehabilitating its sole water tanker to enhance operational efficiency. Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) II, David Asa Darko, the Western Regional GNFS Commander, stated that the tanker's breakdown has hindered firefighting efforts, with a mechanical report indicating that the engine needs replacement at a cost of approximately GHC100,000.
According to Ghana News Agency, ACFO II Darko mentioned that the command's financial constraints necessitate the attention of the Regional Minister for a solution. The appeal was made during Mr Nelson's working visit to the Regional Fire Command at Fijai in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.
ACFO II Darko explained, "Our water tanker which has 3,000 gallons capacity has been broken for two years, and we are hoping that government will assist us to fix it." The Western Regional Minister, acknowledging the vital role of the Fire Service in national development, pledged his office's support to address the issue.
Mr Nelson commended the officers for their dedication in maintaining safety in the Region despite operational challenges. He also urged the Command to review its emergency response strategies to ensure timely responses to fire situations.
