Wamfie District Court Remands Three Illegal Miners

Wamfie: The Wamfie District Magistrate Court in the Dormaa East District of the Bono Region has remanded three suspected illegal miners in police custody. The suspects, Moses Ayando, 30, Joseph Akuwaaya, 32, and John Akanboei, 34, appeared before the court presided over by Mr. Eugene Obeng Ntim for mining without a license. Another suspect, Kwaku Atingani, 16, was granted GHC50,000 bail with one surety. They are scheduled to reappear in court on November 4, 2025.

According to Ghana News Agency, a statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command, indicated that the suspects were arrested on October 22, 2025, at Akontanim near Wamfie in the Dormaa East District. The arrests were made by an anti-galamsey taskforce set up by Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, the Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, during an operation targeting illegal mining activities.

The statement further warned individuals involved in illegal mining within the region to cease their activities or face arrest, investigation, and prosecution.
