Accra: Mr. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, has presented his three-point agenda for the development of the region to the Volta Regional House of Chiefs during a formal visit by him and the Regional Coordinating Council. He outlined his plans during the first Volta Regional House of Chiefs Meeting of the year.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Gunu emphasized the visit as a critical opportunity to convey his development vision and engage with the House on significant regional priorities. His agenda includes promoting peace and security to establish the Volta Region as a prime investment destination both in Ghana and internationally. Strengthening local governance by enhancing the capacity of Municipal and District Assemblies to fulfill their core mandates, particularly in local economic development and job creation, was another key point.

The final component of his agenda involves accelerating development through strategic partnerships with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to fulfill President John Dramani Mahama's vision for the Volta Region. The government's 2025 national theme, 'Stability, Growth and Prosperity for All,' was highlighted by Mr. Gunu as a call for proactive and united efforts from both citizens and leaders.

Mr. Gunu noted ongoing and planned initiatives aligned with this vision, such as the Eastern Corridor Road work, feeder roads rehabilitation, and modernization of commercial hubs like the Aflao Market Complex. The Blekusu Coastal Protection Project's second phase, initiated by Amandi Holdings, aims to combat tidal wave issues, while the Kenaf-Malaysia partnership is expected to revolutionize agriculture with large-scale kenaf cultivation, fostering job creation and industrial processing.

The 2025 Budget's 24-Hour Economy Policy is poised to benefit the Volta Region, introducing agro-processing centers, expanded public services, and energy solutions for SMEs and industrial parks. The upcoming Volta Trade and Investment Fair 2025 will feature 24-hour operations on select days, a first in Ghana.

Additionally, land in Adaklu has been secured for an industrial park, with further acquisitions planned across districts. The Minister also announced upgrades for tourist and heritage sites to attract investments and celebrate the region's cultural heritage.

Mr. Gunu underscored the importance of a peaceful and united traditional leadership, urging the Judicial Committee of the House of Chiefs to expedite resolutions of chieftaincy disputes. He emphasized the government's support for alternative dispute resolution and dialogue.

In response, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, thanked the Minister and commended the government's initiatives. He urged the administration to expedite ongoing projects to deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

Togbui Adama III, Paramount Chief of the Som¨ Traditional Area, expressed gratitude for the government's swift response to the recent tidal wave disaster in Ketu South. Other chiefs praised the government's leadership and expressed hope for continued progress through collaboration with traditional leadership.
