Sexy Dondon’s Lawyer to File Bail Application Amid Prolonged Custody

Accra: Counsel for Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Dondon, has announced intentions to file a bail application, citing his client's suffering in prison custody. Daniel Asiedu is currently facing allegations of murdering J.B. Danquah Adu, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Yaw Dankwah, Asiedu's lawyer, expressed concerns to the High Court regarding the readiness of the prosecution for his client's retrial. Mr. Dankwah plans to submit a formal bail application by the next adjourned date, seeking consideration from the court for Asiedu's release.

During the proceedings, Mr. Dankwah also inquired whether the trial would be conducted by the same court. His submission was made in response to the prosecution's statement during the hearing.

Mr. Fredrick Adu-Gyamfi, an Assistant State Attorney standing in for Sefakor Batsa, Principal State Attorney, conveyed that the prosecution was prepared for the retrial. Consequently, the prosecution requested a new date pending further directions.

Presiding over the case, Justice Kizita Koowa Naa Quarshie adjourned the matter for two weeks. Asiedu faces a retrial following nine years of legal proceedings concerning his alleged involvement in the MP's murder at his residence in February 2016.

The charges against Asiedu include robbery and murder. The retrial was ordered by a high court in Accra on December 4, 2024, after a seven-member jury delivered a 4-3 verdict regarding the charges against him. The late MP was tragically murdered at his Shiashie residence, near East Legon in Accra, on February 9, 2016.
