Mr Nuhu Mohammed, the Oti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), has emphasized the vital role Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) play in society, stressing the need for inclusivity in the electoral process.'PWDs are not marginalized, they are part of us, and their participation in elections is crucial,' Mr, Mohammed added.He made these remarks during a sensitization workshop organized by the Africa Disability Institute, aimed at promoting disability inclusion in the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.Addressing participants during the inauguration, he stated that their outfit was ensuring equal access to voting and participation for PWDs.He said it is their responsibility to provide assistive devices, braille materials and sign language interpretation and educate electoral officials on disability awareness and support.He reaffirmed the Electoral Commission's commitment to implementing measures that facilitate PWDs' participation, ensuring their voices are heard.The work shop brought together stakeholders, including PWDs, electoral officials, Oti Regional Coordinating Director, Municipal Coordinating Director of Krachi East, Regional Director of EC, Municipal officer of CE in Krachi East, Disability and Gender desk officer of regional EC and Regional Director of NCCE.The rest were New Patriotic Party (NPP) representatives, National Democratic Congress (NDC) representatives, Regional Director of Department of Social Welfare, Ghana Federation of Disability Organisation, media practitioners and civil society organizations, to discuss strategies for promoting inclusive democracy.By recognising the valuable contributions of PWDs, Ghana takes a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society.Source: Ghana News Agency
