Accra: President John Dramani Mahama, the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, has announced new appointments for the armed forces' top leadership positions. Acting on advice from the Armed Forces Council, President Mahama has promoted the incoming Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs, and the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to Ghana News Agency, these promotions will be effective from Monday, March 24, 2025. This move comes ahead of the final transition of responsibilities by the outgoing administration. The statement, signed by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communication, outlined the new roles.
Major General William Agyapong has been appointed as the Chief of Defence Staff, while Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu will serve as the Chief of Army Staff. Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing will take on the role of Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong will become the Chief of Air Staff. Additionally, Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai has been named Chief of Staff.
President Mahama extended his best wishes to the new Service Chiefs of the Ghana Armed Forces, expressing hope for a successful tenure. He emphasized the importance of their loyalty, diligence, and patriotic courage as they collaborate to safeguard the nation.
