Sunyani: Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2028 elections, has expressed his belief in political leadership that focuses on uplifting humanity rather than accumulating wealth. “Any politician who doesn’t share this belief has no business doing politics in Ghana,” he stated in a statement issued by his campaign and shared with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Adutwum, who previously served as a Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region and as Minister of Education, made these remarks during his ‘Hope Tour’ in the Volta Region. The tour aims to garner support from NPP delegates ahead of the party’s Presidential Primary scheduled for January 31, 2026. The statement highlighted Dr Adutwum’s vision for the NPP and the nation, promising to efficiently manage the nation’s resources to build a better society if elected to lead the NPP in the 2028 elections.

The statement noted that true leadership is measured by improving the socio-economic livelihood of ordinary Ghanaians, recounting an instance where Dr Adutwum supported a gifted but underprivileged student to become a medical practitioner. Dr Adutwum emphasized that making a positive impact on the socio-economic conditions of Ghanaians brings him fulfillment in politics, rather than seeking titles or positions.

The statement stressed that Dr Adutwum’s political career is motivated by service and compassion, not personal gain, and he is committed to assisting the needy and vulnerable in building their lives. It urged NPP delegates to prioritize leaders with a track record of using personal resources and influence to effect change over those who make empty promises. The statement called for a shift in Ghanaian politics from rhetoric to tangible results that benefit ordinary citizens.

If given the opportunity to lead the NPP and subsequently win the General Election, the statement assured that Dr Adutwum’s government would prioritize education, human development, and the fair use of national resources to break the nation’s cycle of poverty. “Every child deserves a chance, and every family deserves dignity. That is the politics I believe in,” it quoted the NPP’s presidential aspirant.

The statement concluded by announcing that Dr Adutwum’s ‘Hope Tour’ would continue nationwide, aiming to rally delegate support for his leadership bid in the 2028 General Elections.
