TEMA: A confrontation erupted at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) stores on Wednesday when supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) attempted to retrieve items reportedly belonging to the Metropolitan Chief Executive. This action triggered opposition from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth, who argued that political party items should not be stored in a public space.According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Godsway Franklin Kwaku Dzene, assemblyman for the Ashiboi Electoral Area, was alerted to the situation and confirmed the retrieval of items after visiting the stores with fellow assembly members. The NPP youth were asked to halt their actions pending confirmation from the procurement manager. However, tensions escalated as supporters from both political parties gathered at the scene.Mr. Dzene reported contacting the police to defuse the situation, and he received confirmation from Mr. Yohane Armah Ashitey, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, that the items in question belonged to t he NPP. Mr. Dzene emphasized the need for transparency and called for a meeting with relevant assembly members and officials to verify the ownership of the items.In response, Mr. Charles Amos, Assemblyman for the Padmore Electoral Area, urged calm and condemned the confrontation. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the community despite political differences.Mr. Ashitey explained that the items were stored at the TMA facilities during the campaign period due to their late-night arrival. He assured that the procurement officer had clarified that the items were not intended for the assembly, and the matter was resolved with police assistance.
