NGO Inspires Female Leadership Through Mentorship Meet-up Session in Wa.

During the meet-up, Ms Ernestina Biney, the Acting Executive Director of CARD-Ghana, expressed her hope that the initiative would empower participants to see themselves as leaders and aspire to leadership positions. The session covered topics like ‘My Dream, My Reality, How I Made it Happen’ and ‘Campus Life, Leadership, Resilience and Perseverance, Turning Adversity into Opportunity, Career Pathway.’ It also included role plays on challenges faced by girls, the impact of teenage pregnancy, and the effects of gender-based violence, along with a dance choreography to build teamwork and public speaking skills.

The participants were further sensitised on issues such as sexual harassment, forced marriage, sexual and reproductive health, and the role of youth in ensuring peaceful elections. Pognaa Amamata Mumuni, the Girl Child Coordinator at the Wa Municipal Education Directorate, urged students to
report any instances of sexual harassment, emphasizing the importance of speaking up against such inappropriate behavior.

Additionally, Mr Victor Nuworkpor, the Upper West Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education, encouraged the students to actively participate in peace campaigns surrounding the 2024 election. He highlighted the critical role young people play in maintaining peace, noting that they are often the most involved in acts of violence.

The session drew around 300 female students from She Leads Project schools, including Wa Senior High Technical School, Wa Technical Institute, and Islamic and T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High Schools, demonstrating a significant effort to foster female leadership in the region.
