Accra: Nestl© Ghana Limited, a multinational food and drinks processor, has made a significant contribution to the Waste Pickers Waste Association to enhance sanitation efforts across the nation.
According to Ghana News Agency, the donation comprised essential logistics such as waste picking tools, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), mobile phones for data collection, and electronic weight scales. This initiative is aimed at bolstering plastic waste collection efforts nationwide while also improving the livelihoods and working conditions of informal waste pickers.
The donation was presented by Alhaji Yussif Sulemana, Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, during a brief event at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. Mr. Divine Dekonor, President of the Plastic Waste Pickers Association, received the items on behalf of the association.
Madam Salome Azevedo, Managing Director of Nestl© Ghana Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting sustainable practices in Ghana. She expressed satisfaction in knowing that since 2019, Nestl© Ghana has been actively involved in plastic collection, currently collecting more than what the company produces. She highlighted that the donation is part of a broader company effort to contribute to cleaner communities and a healthier environment.
Mr. Sulemana, the Deputy Minister, lauded Nestl© for its consistent dedication to environmental sustainability. He noted that the company has a history of supporting waste pickers and cycle riders to effectively manage plastic waste. He encouraged other manufacturers of plastic materials to follow Nestl©’s exemplary practices and assured that the donated items would be utilized effectively.
Mr. Divine Dekonor, President of the Plastic Waste Pickers Association, assured the Deputy Minister that the donated equipment would be used properly to achieve the intended goals.
