Sunyani: Mr. Eugene Odoi Addo, the Sunyani Area Manager of the National Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), has announced that the company is actively working to address the intermittent and unannounced power outages affecting parts of its operational area. He clarified that the outages are due to technical challenges, dismissing public speculation that the company is conducting load shedding, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor.’
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Addo, speaking to the media in Sunyani, mentioned that NEDCo engineers from Tamale have arrived to assist the Sunyani Area in resolving these technical issues and restoring full power supply. He urged the public to remain calm, acknowledging the financial impact on the company due to the power failures and assuring that the problem would be resolved promptly.
Residents and the business community in Sunyani have expressed concern over the frequent and prolonged power outages in the municipality. Business owners, particularly those operating barbering and hairdressing salons, described the situation as frustrating and called on NEDCo to address the issue swiftly.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Madam Akosuah Pokuah, a hairdresser, highlighted the significant impact of the power failures on their economic activities. Others expressed concerns over the security risks posed by frequent outages. Master George Donkor, a student at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UNER), noted that the issue is affecting their studies.
Mr. Kwame Asiedu, a resident at Sunyani Berlin Top, appealed to the government for intervention, sharing that his refrigerator has become faulty due to the recurring power outages.
