Accra: The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS) has conducted a successful raid of a mining site in the Bole district, arresting several individuals, including foreigners suspected of engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) activities.
According to Ghana News Agency, the NAIMOS stated that the operation was part of the government's ongoing efforts to crack down on galamsey and protect the country's water bodies and forest reserves. The operation resulted in the seizure of various mining equipment, including excavators and pump-action guns.
The statement from NAIMOS noted that the Government had reiterated its commitment to combating illegal mining, with the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service stepping up operations in various command centres. 'These efforts aim to safeguard the country's natural resources and protect the environment,' the statement said.
The NAIMOS operation in the Bole district serves as a warning to those engaging in illegal mining activities that the government would continue to crack down on galamsey.
