Man Arrested for Hyundai Truck Theft in Bono Region

Sunyani: The Bono Regional Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old man, Emmanuel Sarpong, in connection with the theft of a Hyundai Mighty Truck valued at GHC400,000. The incident has drawn attention in the Sunyani Municipality, where the truck was initially reported stolen.

According to Ghana News Agency, the arrest took place on August 03, 2025, following a thorough investigation led by the Bono Regional Police. Sarpong is currently in custody assisting with the ongoing investigations. The truck, which had the registration number GR-6552-24, went missing from Baakoniaba on July 30, 2025, and was later discovered in Akim Oda, Eastern Region, after a tip-off.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Sarpong had removed the original registration plates and was using the vehicle for commercial purposes until it developed a mechanical fault. An intelligence-led undercover operation by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) resulted in Sarpong's arrest when he attempted to collect payment for the truck he had offered for sale.

The police statement confirmed that the truck has been returned to Sunyani, and further investigations are ongoing to bring the case to a close.
