Lucerne: A light aircraft has sunk in Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, following an incident with initially unclear causes. A police spokesman stated it was not yet possible to determine whether the pilot attempted an emergency landing on the water or crashed.
According to Ghana News Agency, unconfirmed media reports suggest the aircraft was on its way to Feuerstein Castle in Bavaria. A spokesman for the Lucerne police confirmed only that a light aircraft had sunk in the lake. Initially, the aircraft was visible on the water's surface but then sank, as stated by the police spokesperson.
Numerous police, fire brigade, and rescue teams are in action. However, the spokesman did not provide any information regarding the departure or destination location or the occupants on board. Lake Lucerne, located in central Switzerland, is a popular holiday and excursion area. With the current rainy and cool weather, fewer excursion boats than usual are likely to have been in operation.
