Volta: Kingdom of God Foundation, a non-governmental organisation focused on spreading the gospel of Christ and supporting communities, has donated relief items to the Volta Regional Coordinating Council. The donations included mattresses and bags of rice for victims affected by recent tidal surges in the coastal areas of the region.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Foundation also presented a cash donation of GHC20,000 to Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, to support his ‘water for all project.’ This initiative aims to provide quality water to all communities in the region. Mr John Paul Semavor, Director of the Kingdom of God Foundation, emphasized the importance of supporting vulnerable individuals in society and expressed the Foundation’s commitment to contributing towards the necessary societal developments.

Mr Gunu expressed gratitude to the Foundation for its support, noting that the assistance would significantly help alleviate the suffering of those affected by the tidal waves. He mentioned that the government is working on comprehensive strategies to find a permanent solution to the issue of tidal surges. The sea defense project has been identified as a long-term solution, and the government plans to prioritize it to ensure its implementation.

The Minister shared his personal experience of staying with those displaced by the tidal waves, which he described as a significant motivator for pursuing permanent solutions to the problem. On the ‘water for all project,’ Mr Gunu stated that its goal is to provide clean water to all residents in the region, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Six. He acknowledged the existing gap in access to quality water and highlighted efforts to provide mechanised boreholes to the affected communities.

Mr Gunu appealed for support from individuals and corporate organizations to help provide sustainable water solutions to communities and institutions throughout the region.
