Tel aviv: The Israeli military announced on Saturday that it successfully eliminated a senior Hamas commander through an airstrike targeting the Gaza Strip. This operation marks a significant development in Israel's ongoing conflict with Hamas.
According to Ghana News Agency, the targeted individual, Hakham al-Issa, was a pivotal figure in Hamas, being one of its founders and a leading member of the group's military wing. Al-Issa was notably involved in orchestrating the attacks on Israel that occurred on October 7, 2023, which served as the catalyst for the current hostilities between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
The conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with more than 56,400 Palestinians reported killed due to Israeli military actions in the besieged Gaza territory. These figures have been provided by the Hamas-run health ministry, underscoring the devastating human toll of the ongoing war.
The Israeli military highlighted that al-Issa was among the last remaining senior Hamas commanders in Gaza. At the time of his death, he held the position of chief of staff for Hamas's 'combat and administrative support division,' a key role within the group's military operations.
