Independence Square to Close Temporarily for Presidential Inauguration Preparations

ACCRA: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has announced the temporary closure of Independence Square and its surrounding areas in anticipation of the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama. The closure will commence at midnight on December 31, 2024, and extend through January 8, 2025.



According to Ghana News Agency, the announcement was made in a release signed by Mr. Mark Okraku Mantey, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture. The statement indicated that the area would be secured by the National Security to facilitate preparations for the upcoming inauguration of the President-elect. This measure is part of the logistical arrangements to ensure a smooth and orderly ceremony.



The Ministry has advised the general public and tourists to adhere to the closure directive. The public is urged to make alternative arrangements during this period and follow any additional guidelines provided by the authorities. The announcement underscores the significance of the inauguration and the need for security and organization at the historic site.
