Madina: A solemn burial mass for the late Patrick Dela Cofie, Head of the Foreign Desk, Ghana News Agency, took place at the Our Lady of Apostles Catholic Church in Madina, in the Greater Accra Region. The burial mass was witnessed by family members and sympathisers who paid their last respects to him and bid him farewell on his journey on earth.
According to Ghana News Agency, Reverend Father Nimorious Kwabena Domanzing, the Resident Priest at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, delivered a sermon emphasizing the transient nature of human life. He quoted scripture from Saint James and Psalms to highlight that life is fleeting, much like vapour or wild grass. Rev Domanzing spoke about the inevitability of death, reminding the congregation that life is a pilgrimage and encouraging them to live as pilgrims of hope.
Rev Domanzing extolled the values of the late Cofie, describing him as a quiet yet active individual who lived his life for others. He praised Cofie for his integrity, faith, and intelligence, noting his involvement with the church and his contributions to the sacred heart of fraternity. Rev Domanzing encouraged Christians to follow Cofie's example by living a life of simplicity and service to others.
Reverend Dr Lawrence Tetteh, Founder of World Miracle Outreach, also paid tribute to Cofie, describing him as a man who related well with people and was passionate about helping the underprivileged. He lamented the loss of a brilliant individual who had the potential to become a significant icon in the community.
The family of the late Cofie remembered him as a man who stood for justice, truth, and the voiceless. They praised his humility, compassion, and leadership, noting his dedication to his roles as an editor, teacher, union leader, and friend. His life and work left a lasting legacy of impactful writing and excellence.
Patrick Dela Cofie joined the Ghana News Agency as an Editor, initially working at the Home Desk. His dedication and talent led to his transfer to the Foreign Desk in October 2013. He was promoted to Senior Editor in December 2016 and became Head of the Foreign Desk in April 2023. Alongside his professional achievements, Cofie was a staunch advocate for staff rights, serving as the First Vice Chairman of the Communication Workers Union at GNA and representing the Union at various national and international forums.
