Accra: A severe water shortage has hit the Effutu Municipality, leaving residents without supply for more than two weeks.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu and Minority Leader in Parliament, has raised alarm over the situation, describing it as a humanitarian crisis that is affecting every aspect of community life.
In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said the shutdown had created unbearable hardship for over 140,000 residents, disrupting households, schools, health facilities, and businesses.
He warned that the lack of water supply had worsened sanitation challenges, increased the risk of waterborne diseases, and threatened the socio-economic wellbeing of the municipality.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin called on the authorities to immediately clarify the cause of the disruption and to provide a clear timeline for the restoration of uninterrupted water supply.
'I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to your swift response,' he stated.
