Kassena-Nankana West: Mr Stephen Aeke Akurugo, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Kassena-Nankana West District, has pledged to establish motivational packages for nurses and midwives in the area. He emphasized the collaboration between the District Assembly, the Member of Parliament, and the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) to implement these initiatives, which aim to enhance healthcare delivery in the district.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Akurugo, who has a professional background in nursing, made this commitment during a visit from the GRNMA leadership in the district. The visit was to congratulate him on his appointment. He announced plans to offer scholarships for nurses and midwives to pursue specialist courses in critical fields, aiming to boost service delivery and address the human resource gap, especially at the District Hospital.
The DCE highlighted the importance of primary healthcare and assured the GRNMA of the Assembly’s efforts to collaborate with health stakeholders in achieving Universal Health Coverage. He encouraged healthcare professionals to engage in politics while maintaining their professional ethical standards and urged them to remain dedicated to their aspirations despite challenges.
Addressing the GRNMA’s recent industrial action over their conditions of service agreement, Mr Akurugo acknowledged the legitimacy of their demands and expressed hope for a resolution that would enable continued healthcare service provision. He also expressed gratitude to President Mahama for his appointment and thanked the GRNMA leadership for their visit.
Mr Francis Anaba, the GRNMA District Chairman, expressed appreciation for the DCE’s initiatives and assured him of the Association’s support in improving healthcare delivery in the district.
