Constituency NDC Executive Member Calls for Co-Visionary Person to Support President Mahama’s Vision

Koforidua: The members of the Council of State in Ghana aim to champion excellence in state government by bringing state leaders from across the country through its regions to put together the best ideas and solutions. Mr. John Nyakpo, a current Constituency Executive Member of the NDC in Ofoase/Ayirebi, has therefore appealed to delegates to vote and elect someone as the Eastern Regional Representative of the Council of State whose visions are aligned with President John Dramani Mahama's four strategic priorities.

According to Ghana News Agency, the priorities are economic restoration, improving the business climate, implementing governance and constitutional reforms, and strengthening accountability in the fight against corruption. Speaking in an interview in Koforidua, Mr. Nyakpo said, "A person with such ambitions can be a good team player when elected to assist the government by recommending activities that could ensure the achievement and accomplishment of the visions."

In this regard, about 66 delegates from the 33 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in the Region are going to polls to elect a Regional Representative of the Council of State on February 11, 2025. The election was under the supervision of the Eastern Regional Office of the Electoral Commission.

Out of the 24 contestants, only one is expected to be a member of the Council of State for the Region. The election takes place every four years across the regions.

Mr. Nyakpo, also a former Constituency Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ofoase/Ayirebi, appealed to the member of the Council of State who will be elected to consider the need to demarcate Eastern Region into two to foster intensive provision of infrastructure. The Region has vast land endowed with mineral resources, 11 paramountcies with large populations, and sites for tourist attraction.
