Accra: Mrs. Charlotte Osei, former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), is set to deliver the keynote address at the 13th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture of the late President John Evans Atta Mills on 22nd July. Professor John Evans Atta Mills, who served as Ghana's third President of the Fourth Republic, passed away on 24 July 2012 while in office, leaving a notable legacy in the nation's political landscape.
According to Ghana News Agency, the lecture is scheduled for 22 July 2025, at the Ohene Kofi Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). The theme for the event is 'Atta Mills: A Case Study for the Fourth Republic.' The keynote speaker for this significant anniversary was announced by Mr. Alex Segbefia, Chairperson of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, during a press launch in Accra.
The anniversary will feature a series of events, as mentioned by Mr. Segbefia, including a wreath-laying ceremony on 24 July at the Asomdwee Park. The commemorations will conclude with the Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium. Mrs. Osei, a seasoned lawyer and governance expert, is expected to discuss the late President's legacy, focusing on his contributions to Ghana's economic stability and institutional strengthening during his tenure.
The event will be chaired by Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff and former local government Minister, with participation from government officials, civil society, and the public. Mr. Segbefia encouraged the media and citizens to actively support the events, emphasizing their commitment to upholding Prof. Mills' values of service and national unity.
Nana Oye Bampo Addo, Deputy Chief of Staff, praised the late President for his exceptional leadership and humility. She highlighted his legacy of peace, compassion, and inclusive governance, which earned him the revered title 'Asomdwee Hene', meaning King of Peace.
