Ato Forson Reflects on Journey from Parliament Back Bencher to Finance Minister

Accra: Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson nostalgically reflected on his rise from a young parliamentarian in 2009 to his current role as Minister of Finance while presenting the 2025 Budget Statement in Parliament on Tuesday.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr Forson shared his journey in public service, highlighting his transition from a backbencher to various significant roles such as a member of the Finance Committee, Deputy Minister for Finance, Ranking Member on the Finance Committee, Minority Leader, briefly Majority Leader, and now Minister for Finance. The presentation of the Budget was in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution.

Dr Forson emphasized the importance of his Parliamentary experience, stating that it had shaped his perspective and prepared him for the challenge of leading Ghana's economic recovery. He expressed his commitment to supporting the President in restoring the nation's economy.

In previous discussions, Dr Forson had underscored the need for prudent financial management and economic reforms. He assured that revenue generation would remain a priority during his tenure as Finance Minister, with a focus on revenue rather than debt to develop the economy.
