Kumasi: Karim Zito has been appointed as the new interim head coach of Asante Kotoko following the dismissal of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, as the club seeks to improve its performance after a series of disappointing results.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Porcupine Warriors made the announcement on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, as part of a strategic restructuring of their technical team. The club’s statement revealed that Karim Zito, a former player and head coach of Asante Kotoko, has been named the new Technical Director and will also serve as Acting Head Coach on an interim basis. Zito brings extensive experience from both club and national levels, having previously led Dreams FC to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final and guided Ghana’s U-20 team to victory at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
In addition to Zito’s appointment, Prince Yaw Owusu has been brought on as Assistant Coach. Owusu is an experienced football technician with over two decades of coaching experience in Ghana, Sudan, and the United States. His coaching portfolio includes head coaching roles at Medeama SC, Inter Allies, Khartoum National Club, and the Ghana U-20 national team. Owusu is also recognized for his contributions to player development, having nurtured talents who have advanced to major clubs such as AC Milan, Genoa, Sassuolo, and Fiorentina.
The club also announced that Malik Jabir, who previously served as Technical Director, will now take on the role of Technical Advisor, offering strategic guidance to support Asante Kotoko’s long-term goals. These appointments are part of the club’s commitment to building a robust and forward-looking technical structure to achieve sustained competitive success.
Asante Kotoko, currently experiencing a four-game winless streak, is set to face Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium this Sunday as they aim to turn their fortunes around.
