Akatsi South MP Distributes Fertiliser to Boost Rice Farming

Akatsi: A total of 523 farmers have benefitted from a fertiliser donation aimed at enhancing rice farming in the Akatsi South Municipality. The initiative, led by Mr. Bernard Ahiafor, Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, is designed to encourage farmers to expand their agricultural ventures.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ahiafor addressed the beneficiary farmers, who are predominantly rice cultivators, assuring them of ongoing support to stimulate economic growth in the region. He emphasized farming as a crucial pillar for governmental development and noted the increasing prevalence of rice farming within his constituency, highlighting the importance of providing necessary support to diligent farmers.

Mr. Ahiafor committed to equitable distribution and assistance for all farmers, irrespective of political or religious affiliations. He also urged farmers to adapt their practices to address the challenges posed by climate change, thereby reducing post-harvest losses.

Over 800 bags of NPK fertilisers were distributed at the event, which was attended by Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akatsi South, and other party executives. The beneficiaries, comprising various groups such as the Norvisi Rice Farmers Group, Moshie Rice Farmers, and Lorlornyo Rice Farmers Group, expressed gratitude to Mr. Ahiafor for his generosity and pledged to utilize the fertilisers effectively.

The farmers’ meeting also included discussions on the challenges in the rice production sector and strategies for overcoming them.
