Ada East District Assembly Staff Join CLOGSAG Strike Over Appointment Dispute

Ada Foah: The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) members of the Ada East District Assembly are adhering to directives from the leadership of the association to embark on a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025. The staff, who are members of CLOGSAG, have since boycotted activities of the Assembly.

According to Ghana News Agency, CLOGSAG declared a strike action to support their call against the appointment of Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry. In contrast, the Local Government Service Workers' Union (LGSWU) has announced its decision not to participate in the strike action. As a result, the Ada East District Assembly is currently operating with a reduced staff presence when the Ghana News Agency visited the facility throughout the week.

Mr. Jerrison Ayih, the District Coordinating Director, was in his office but declined to speak with the Ghana News Agency about the development, explaining that he had no information on the reason for the strike.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment has urged CLOGSAG to call off the strike ahead of a planned meeting with them on Thursday, February 27.
