Wenchi SDA Church Honours 20 Girls for Preservation of Virginity

Wenchi: The Wenchi West District of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) of the Mid-West Ghana Conference in the Bono Region recently recognized 20 girls for maintaining their virginity. This commendation took place during a thanksgiving service held in conjunction with the Church's first Sabbath Day celebration at Wenchi.

According to Ghana News Agency, the girls, aged between 13 and 16 years, received undisclosed sums of money to support their upkeep. Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, the Wenchi West District Coordinator of the Young Adventist Women Ministries, praised the girls for their decision to preserve their virginity and advised them to continue doing so until marriage. She emphasized the unique beauty with which they were created and cautioned them about the influence of friends in the coming years.

Mrs. Poku highlighted the ministry's commitment to shaping girls and young women into responsible adults. She advocated for a return to traditional norms that safeguard girls from promiscuity. She mentioned that customs such as puberty rites, like the ancient Bragoro or Dipo rite, played a significant role in preserving virginity and preventing teenage pregnancies, which can negatively impact young girls' growth and development.

Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, the Associate Pastor of Wenchi West District SDA Church, also praised the girls for their example and encouraged other girls in the Church to focus on their education while maintaining their purity. Some of the girls expressed gratitude for the recognition and the Church's support in their spiritual development.
