Accra: Miss Freda Asante Asuamah, the 2024 winner of the Nightingale Prestigious Award (NPA), has urged nurses and midwives to remain committed to their profession. She emphasized that nursing is a divine calling and assured that those who dedicate themselves to this vocation will be blessed both in this life and the hereafter.
According to Ghana News Agency, Ms. Asuamah, who serves as a Senior Staff Midwife at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region, was named the overall winner in the 'Nurse and Midwife category' at the third edition of the NPA 2024 held in Accra. The NPA is an award scheme established by a group of nurses and midwives to acknowledge the contributions of their peers to healthcare delivery, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.
The award also highlights the efforts of rotation nurses and midwives who work diligently to improve healthcare outcomes and inspire their colleagues through their dedication. A statement issued and shared with GNA described Ms. Asuamah as a midwife with a mission to spread vital health-related information, particularly focusing on reproductive, maternal, and newborn health. Her work involves voluntarily sharing crucial health information in schools, on the airwaves, in churches, and other social settings.
Ms. Asuamah has initiated a project called health@tymwiddemidwife, which focuses on maternal and newborn health and is active on social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram. The statement, signed by Mr. Abraham Achire, head of Media and Communication for the NPA, highlighted Ms. Asuamah's significant impact on healthcare delivery systems and encouraged other nurses and midwives to emulate her commitment to improving health outcomes.
Dr. Solomon Chemogo, a pediatrician at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, praised Ms. Asuamah for her dedication, noting that she deserved the award. He mentioned that the hospital recognized her hard work by honoring her as the 2023 best staff of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, owing to her unwavering commitment and passion for her work.
