Valencia: The body of a man believed to have been dead for approximately 15 years was discovered in his apartment in Valencia, Spain. The grim find took place in the La Fuensanta district, where the man, identified as Antonio, was found on the sixth floor of an apartment building.
According to Ghana News Agency, the police and fire brigade accessed the apartment through a window to address flooding caused by heavy rainfall. The local TV stations RTVE and Antena 3, citing police sources, reported the incident. Authorities suggest that Antonio likely passed away around 2010, at the age of 70 or 71. His mummified body was located in the bedroom, surrounded by pigeons, pigeon carcasses, insects, and considerable debris. The apartment door was locked from the inside, and there is no evidence of foul play.
The Spanish National Police suspect a natural cause of death but have stated that an autopsy will be conducted for further clarification. Neighbors expressed disbelief at having lived near a deceased person for such an extended period. Many described Antonio as a reclusive individual who had minimal contact with both his family and the outside world.
A neighbor mentioned to Antena 3, "Since we never saw him, everyone thought he was in a nursing home." Similarly, another neighbor shared with the newspaper El Pas, "We didn't know him here. We are all shocked." The newspaper further reported that Antonio's death went unnoticed as bills were continuously paid, and neighbors routinely cleared his overflowing mailbox.
