Kumasi: SIC Insurance PLC has supported the One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) initiative of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) by donating 50 laptops. The company aims to assist financially disadvantaged students through this gesture.According to Ghana News Agency, the SONSOL initiative, launched in 2020, focuses on bridging the digital divide and providing students with essential tools for their academic pursuits. Mr. James Agyenim-Boateng, Managing Director of SIC Insurance PLC, along with senior managers, presented the laptops in Kumasi as part of the company's commitment to the 2025 SONSOL Project.Mr. Agyenim-Boateng praised KNUST's leadership for their dedication to educational equality, aligning with SIC Insurance PLC's values. He highlighted that supporting education is a cornerstone of the company's corporate social responsibility, emphasizing the importance of digital tools in the academic landscape.Since the inception of the SONSOL project, SIC Insurance PL C has donated a total of 300 laptops to KNUST, reinforcing the belief that access to digital learning tools is essential. Mr. Agyenim-Boateng commended KNUST's Vice Chancellor, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, for her significant contributions to national development.In response, Prof. Dickson expressed gratitude for SIC Insurance PLC's consistent support over the years, acknowledging the mutual benefits of their relationship. She emphasized the far-reaching impact of each laptop on students, their families, and communities.Beyond SONSOL, SIC Insurance PLC has engaged in various projects at KNUST, including refurbishing the vehicle workshop, constructing a washing bay, and establishing an office on campus. Mr. Agyenim-Boateng's visit to the Ashanti Region also included meetings with other educational institutions and company branches to strengthen ties and appreciate their contributions.
