Adaklu Kodzobi: Reverend Richard Mawufemor Agbi, Pastor in charge of the Global Evangelical Church, Kingdom Life Chapel, Adaklu Kodzobi, emphasized the importance of both spiritual and physical wellbeing for Christians. He reminded the congregation that God's interest extends beyond spiritual matters to include the cleanliness and health of their physical surroundings.
According to Ghana News Agency, Rev. Agbi shared his insights during an interview at Adaklu Kodzobi amid the sanitation week celebrations in the Adaklu district. The event is set to culminate with a durbar and the inauguration of a sanitation committee. Drawing from Deuteronomy chapter 23, verses 10 to 14, Rev. Agbi highlighted the biblical emphasis on maintaining hygienic conditions, underscoring that God's guidance against open defecation and unclean environments reveals the significance of physical cleanliness.
Rev. Agbi pointed out that while many Christians dedicate time to prayer, fasting, and studying scripture, they often neglect the upkeep of their surroundings. He noted that unsanitary environments contribute significantly to the outbreak of diseases in communities today. Rev. Agbi expressed concern over practices such as open defecation and improper waste disposal, which contradict both divine and human sanitation laws.
He observed that clogged gutters filled with waste and plastics have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes, exacerbating health risks. Rev. Agbi urged Christians to recognize that cleanliness is integral to godliness and encouraged proactive waste management, like burning plastic waste instead of allowing it to scatter.
Rev. Agbi called for the enforcement of sanitation bylaws to protect communities from diseases such as cholera, malaria, and typhoid. He stressed that God does not reside in unclean environments and that prayers for healing might go unheard if individuals continue to suffer from diseases related to poor hygiene. He commended the community's leadership for their relentless efforts towards maintaining cleanliness.
