Police Apprehends Seven Illegal Miners on Black Volta River

Accra: The Upper West Regional Police Command has apprehended seven illegal miners operating on the Black Volta River at Kyeatanga community near Dorimon in the Wa West District.

According to Ghana News Agency, the suspects, comprising five males and two females, were identified as Sabugu Razak, Ibrahim Zuberu, Alex Amedzake, John Cobblah, Promise Dufe, Angelina Akpese, and Rebecca Tumawu. The arrests were made on Thursday, April 10, 2025, as stated in a statement signed by DCOP Mr. Ni Darko Olle Lomotey, the Upper West Regional Police Commander.

The statement detailed that ten Changfang machines, two unregistered PNE tricycles, an Apsonic tricycle, and a motorbike with registration numbers M-24-NR 6010 and M-23-UW 4413 were retrieved from the site. Additionally, two unregistered Haojue and Apsonic motorbikes, along with six student mattresses, were also confiscated.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be brought before the court. The Regional Police Command emphasized its commitment to cracking down on illegal mining activities across the region.
