Accra: Security operations have been strengthened in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri, and surrounding communities in the Savannah Region in response to recent communal disturbances. Clashes over a land dispute in Gbiniyiri on Sunday, August 24, resulted in at least five fatalities and six injuries, with three individuals in critical condition.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Police Public Affairs Directorate issued a statement indicating that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is personally leading a delegation from the National Police Headquarters to assess the security situation and engage with traditional and community leaders. The statement highlighted that the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces and other key stakeholders, has intensified patrols and strategic deployments across affected areas to prevent further unrest.
Additional police personnel have been dispatched to support local law enforcement efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability. Authorities are calling for calm among all parties and encouraging cooperation with security teams to ensure lasting peace in the area.
