Atebubu: The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal branch of the Pensioners Association has praised the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) for its role in providing security and hope to pensioners across the nation. Mr. Samuel Kokro, the Vice Chairman of the branch, expressed that the sustainable monthly retirement benefits provided by SSNIT have allowed pensioners to live more dignified lives.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kokro offered these commendations during the branch's monthly meeting held in Atebubu, located in the Bono East Region. The meeting focused on discussing significant issues regarding the progress and welfare of the association. Mr. Kokro emphasized that since the SSNIT scheme began the disbursement of monthly pensions in the early nineties, there has been a consistent and deserving payment to pensioners. He stated, "SSNIT has never reneged on the payment to pensioners, and we must appreciate and commend the Trust for that." He also expressed the association's hope that the Trust would be preserved to benefit future generations.
Additionally, Mr. Ohene Gyan, the Patron of the Association, urged the government to establish an annual lecture on illegal mining to enhance public awareness about its adverse effects. He highlighted the need to educate and remind citizens about the consequences of galamsey and proposed that a similar lecture be held in honor of the eight individuals who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
