Accra: The Appointments Committee of Parliament has begun public hearings to vet nominees for ministerial and regional ministerial positions, as nominated by President John Dramani Mahama. This vetting process, conducted in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, is a crucial step in assessing and approving key government appointments.
According to Ghana News Agency, the proceedings have attracted significant public interest, with many individuals visiting Parliament to witness the vetting sessions in person. As a result, to ensure safety and security, Parliament has restricted access to the venue, allowing only individuals with invitation cards or proper accreditation to enter. A statement signed by Mr David Sabastian Damoah, Director Media Relations and copied to the Ghana News Agency, Accra, emphasized this measure.
The statement highlighted that for those unable to attend in person, Parliament has partnered with several media houses to broadcast the proceedings live, encouraging the public to follow the vetting process remotely. This approach aims to balance public involvement with security considerations, reaffirming Parliament's commitment to an open yet orderly review of the ministerial nominees.
It further noted that the vetting process was expected to be thorough, with the Appointments Committee carefully evaluating the nominees' qualifications and suitability for their respective roles. The public's interest in the proceedings is seen as a testament to the importance of transparency and accountability in government.
