London: The Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has applauded Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for making peacebuilding a central focus in his reign.According to Ghana News Agency, she made these remarks when the Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin was presented to her at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London.The presentation took place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and was accompanied by a statement acknowledging Otumfuo's contributions to Asanteman and Ghana. The Secretary-General emphasized that all 56 countries within the Commonwealth adhere to its charter, promoting democracy, good governance, human rights, and the rule of law. She expressed the Commonwealth's alignment with Otumfuo's peace efforts and gratefully accepted the gift of the gold coin.A delegation, which included Alex Dadey, Executive Chairman of KGL Group, and other notable individuals, presented the gold coin to the Secretary-General. Mr. Dadey conveyed an invitation for her to attend next year's peace concert event in Kumasi. The 24-karat gold coin symbolizes peace and honors Otumfuo for his contributions to peace and development in Ghana, serving as both a legacy for the Asantehene and a means to project Ghana's cultural heritage.The Commonwealth Secretary-General also accepted an invitation to be a special guest at the 'World-Meets-in-Ghana' peace concert next year, celebrating Otumfuo as a Pillar of Peace on his 27th coronation anniversary. This two-day event is an opportunity for world leaders and the global community to acquire pieces of the Otumfuo commemorative gold coin, gold bar, and gold medal.Otumfuo was previously honored with the title of 'Pillar of Peace' at the inaugural African Premier Leadership Awards in Kumasi on December 29, 2019. This recognition was due to his role in resolving the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict, which involved over 1,000 sittings and resulted in the enskinment of a new king, Ya-Na Abukari II.In addition to resolving the Dagbon conflict, Otumfuo has mediated hundreds of chieftai ncy disputes within his kingdom and played a key role in political conflict resolution, including election disputes. His efforts to mediate political tensions have been crucial in maintaining Ghana's democratic stability.The Bank of Ghana authorized the E ON 3 Group to issue a 24-karat commemorative gold coin in his honor, which was officially launched on December 12, 2021, at an event in Kumasi. Following the launch, special presentations of the coin were made to select recipients, reflecting their alignment with Otumfuo's peace initiatives.Recipients of the gold coin include prominent figures such as former Presidents of Ghana, Justice Anin Yeboah, and international representatives. This initiative highlights Otumfuo's significant impact on peace and development in Ghana and beyond.
