Accra: Thousands of music enthusiasts and supporters from all walks of life congregated at the Independence Square in Accra to mark the one-week memorial of the late iconic Ghanaian musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. It was a time to reflect and celebrate the life of Daddy Lumba, one of Ghana's most famous music sons, who died on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, following a brief illness.According to Ghana News Agency, the vibrant and well-attended one-week observation event saw scores of musicians, politicians, and sympathisers mourning and offering their sympathies to the bereaved family. Despite no date announced for his final funeral rites, Daddy Lumba is set to be given a befitting burial in Kumasi in the coming months.Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who graced the one-week observation, had earlier described Daddy Lumba as 'a pantheon among musical greats of all time and had a special connection with his fans and the entire nation.' Former President Akufo-Addo also donated GHC 100,000 at the one-week memorial event to aid preparations towards the final funeral rites.Other high-level dignitaries who graced the one-week observation included former Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin, former Chief of Staff Madam Frema Opare, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, and a host of others.The one-week celebration of the legendary Daddy Lumba also witnessed some stunning performances from another legendary singer, Amakye Dede, a.k.a. Iron Boy. Amakye Dede was met by a rousing welcome by fans at the venue, and it was effortless Highlife vibes when he climbed the stage to perform a few songs.Kofi Nti and Kay Bless also had turns on the stage as they thrilled fans with some heartwarming songs from Daddy Lumba, with fans in their full dancing element. Multiple award-winning musician Sarkodie, together with his wife Tracy, were also present at the one-week memorial event, as were Pat Thomas, Oheneba Kissi , among many others.
