Accra: The Akyode Youth of Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region have rejected relief items worth thousands of cedis from Member of Parliament (MP) Mr. Geoffrey Kini, meant to support families affected by recent violent attacks between the Akyode and Adele communities. The youth claim Mr. Kini had not been impartial in the conflict, alleging he has worked closely with the Adele and Challa communities to undermine the Akyode community.
According to Ghana News Agency, the youth cited instances where the MP allegedly failed to intervene on behalf of the Akyode community during attacks and violent incidents. They expressed skepticism about accepting aid from someone they believe has sided against them. The youth stated, "What is the worth of a bag of rice coming from the man, who eats and dines with the very people who have inflicted so much pain on us?"
While they expressed gratitude for the gesture, the youth rejected the relief items due to perceived bias. Despite the rejection, Mr. Kini and other Oti MPs have called for peace and dialogue between the factions. They urged community leaders and civil society organizations to facilitate dialogue towards a lasting solution.
