Wenchi: The League Social Democrats, an emerging political group within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wenchi Municipality, has recently donated a brand-new wheelchair and an undisclosed sum of money to Madam Cecilia Tapi, a physically-challenged woman, enhancing her mobility and well-being.
According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Tapi expressed her immense delight upon receiving the gifts, stating that her previous half-damaged wheelchair had significantly limited her movement, resulting in years of social exclusion. The financial support provided will also assist her in covering medical expenses, further improving her quality of life.
Madam Tapi shared her past challenges and those faced by others in similar situations, urging the government and philanthropists to provide more support. She emphasized the need for greater respect for the fundamental human rights and dignity of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), highlighting their potential to contribute meaningfully to society if given adequate support.
Mr. Suleiman Hassan, the Wenchi Constituency Secretary of the NDC and leader of the group, explained that the group aims to identify and support vulnerable individuals, including PwDs, widows, the aged, and orphans. He called on benevolent individuals and organizations to contribute towards enhancing the living conditions of PwDs in the area.
Dr. Solomon Boakye-Duah, a member of the group who delivered the wheelchair and monetary support, reiterated the group's commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations in the region.
