Melcom Allocates Over 20 Million Cedis to Boost Healthcare in Ghana

Accra: In a significant contribution to Ghana's healthcare sector, the Melcom Group of Companies has invested over 20 million cedis in the past decade to ensure quality healthcare delivery across the nation. Through its annual blood donation initiative, the company has been instrumental in aiding the National Blood Service to enhance its blood reserves, which are crucial for saving lives.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ramesh Sadhwani, Joint Group Managing Director of Melcom, emphasized the substantial impact of the company's blood donation drive, which is crucial for patients including pregnant women, anaemic children, and accident victims. He announced the donation of 70 medical refrigerators to various hospitals to ensure the safe storage of blood.

The blood banks across Ghana face a significant challenge as the demand for blood consistently surpasses voluntary donations and family replacements. The National Blood Service has repeatedly expressed concerns over declining blood stocks, which are vital for maintaining quality healthcare. The Service indicates that approximately 350,000 units of blood are needed annually.

Mr. Sadhwani also praised the efforts of journalists in strengthening Ghana's democracy and stressed the importance of maintaining high journalism standards to foster an environment conducive to both local and international investments. He reiterated Melcom's commitment to supporting journalism by sponsoring the Best Graduate in Journalism from the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UNIMAC) in memory of Melcom's late Founder and Chairman, Mr. Bhagwan Ramchand Khubchandani, and the late Mr. Godwin Avernogbo, Melcom's former Director of Communications.

In a strategic move, Melcom has appointed Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, former Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, as the Group's Consultant for Communications and Strategy. Dr. Awal expressed his dedication to his new role, promising to contribute value to the company.

The company also mentioned other corporate social responsibility projects, including providing sanitation facilities for basic schools and donating an official block to a district assembly.
