Massive Shakeup at GHS: Programme Managers, Deputy Directors Reassigned

Accra: The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has made some structural changes in its leadership with about 13 of its Programme Managers, Deputy Directors and Medical Superintendents reassigned. The reshuffling was primarily within the Public Health, Institutional Care, and Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation Divisions, with transfers also occurring between the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Central, and Ahafo Regions.

According to Ghana News Agency, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director General of GHS, communicated the changes in a letter to Divisional and Regional Directors of Health Services, noting that the new positions will take effect on May 19, 2025. He emphasized that the reassignment was part of a broader national strategy to strengthen the health systems.

Dr. Kwame Amponsa-Achiano, previously the Deputy Director, DCP and Programme Manager of the Expanded Programme on Immunization at the Public Health Directorate, GHS Headquarters, will now serve as Deputy Director, DCP – PHD at the GHS HQ. Dr. Hilarius A. K. Abiwu, formerly a Deputy Director in Public Health in the Northern Region, will now serve as the Acting Programme Manager of the National Malaria Elimination Programme at the GHS HQ.

Dr. Emmanuel A. A. Teviu, Deputy Director (PH) in the Ashanti Region, has been reassigned to serve as the Acting Programme Manager for the National Aids Control NACP – PHD/GHS HQ. Dr. Mrs. Selorm Kutsoati, District Director at La Nkwantang Madina Municipal Assembly, will assume the role of Acting Programme Manager EPI at the GHS HQ.

Dr. Ziem Bernard, Deputy Director (PH) in the Ahafo Region, will now serve as the Acting Programme Manager of the National Tuberculosis Control Program at the GHS HQ. Dr. Wallace Odiko-Ollennu, previously Deputy Chief Dental Officer at the Institutional Care Division, will now serve as the Acting Programme Manager for Non-Communicable Diseases at the GHS HQ.

Dr. Ebenezer Oduro-Mensah, Medical Superintendent in the Greater Accra Region, will take on the role of Deputy Director, Clinical Care at the GHS HQ. Dr. Andrew Ayim, Deputy Director of Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation at the GHS HQ, will serve as Deputy Director (PH) in the Ahafo Region.

Further reassignments include Dr. Keziah Malm, Programme Manager of the National Malaria Elimination Programme, who will become the Deputy Director (PH) in the Ashanti Region. Dr. Stephen Ayisi Addo, Programme Manager of the National AIDS Control Programme, will serve as the Acting Deputy Director (PH) in the Northern Region.

Dr. Yaw Adusi-Poku, currently Program Manager of the NTP, will be the Programme Manager of the National Leprosy Control Program at the GHS HQ. Dr. Efua Commeh, Acting Programme Manager for Non-Communicable Diseases, will serve as District Director at La Nwantanang Madina. Lastly, Dr. Benedict Okoe-Quao will continue as a Medical Superintendent at Ankaful Leprosarium in the Central Region.
