Dzita: A man believed to be in his late 30s has drowned in a pool at Dzita in the Anloga District of the Volta Region. The incident occurred on Monday, January 20, at around 1505 hours at 'Meet Me There', a hotel where the deceased and two female companions had checked in for leisure and decided to swim.
According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. David Normanyo, the Assembly member of the area, stated in an interview that the three individuals were swimming when the incident occurred. The report indicated that the deceased, his wife, and his sister-in-law were lodging at the hotel for leisure before the tragic event unfolded.
Dr. Normanyo explained that the deceased was swiftly transported to a hospital in Anloga but was pronounced dead on arrival, while the two women were safely rescued from the situation. He mentioned that the group was visiting from Accra and had chosen to spend time at the hotel for the first time.
The families of those involved have been notified of the incident, and it has been requested that the name of the deceased remain undisclosed to prevent any unforeseen internal family issues while investigations are ongoing. The incident has been reported to the Anloga police, and the deceased's body has been deposited at the Keta Municipal hospital morgue for examination and autopsy.
Dr. Normanyo noted that the incident has left many residents in a state of fear and shock, as it is the first occurrence of its kind in about 40 years in the area. He urged residents to stay calm while the police conduct their investigation into the matter.
